Silva’s Village Apartment (#211)

Simple self contained apartment with delightful panorama located right in the historical centre of Michelangelo’s birthplace, in fact just a few steps from his family home.

Silva’s place is affordably priced and if you can live without the classic terracotta paving and exposed chestnut beamed ceilings, it offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourselves in the life and culture of a sleepy Tuscan hilltop town that just so happens to be the birthplace of one of the world’s most famous sculptors! It also provides an excellent base from which to explore the many places of interest in the area and further afield.

The entrance to the apartment is on a cobbled street that constitutes one of the few main streets in this quaint little village. The classic veranda with tiled terracotta roof has been preserved at the front door and provides an ideal spot to enjoy your caffè latte each morning. The kitchen is nearly new and very functional, it has a modest dining table and also a small lounge area which features a stone fireplace making cooler evenings very cosy. There is a TV with limited satellite if you wish to catch up on what is happening in the world in English from time to time.

A small flight of stairs lead up to the double room that also enjoys lovely views over the valley. Alas the bathroom is on the ground floor along with the second bedroom that hosts one single bed. The apartment is simply but adequately furnished and the strip of garden below provides an excellent spot for relaxing with a good novel, a little meditation or simply enjoying the charming countryside panorama and birdsong.

Fresh fruits, local wine and provisions for your first breakfast in Caprese Michelangelo are provided for your arrival. There is also a small bar just a few doors up that offers one of the very best Crostata [Italian jam tart] in the area, they are prepared daily by the grandmother and their cappuccinos are good too. The bar is part of a Hotel [handy if you have visitors staying a few nights] that is also home to an excellent restaurant featuring a host of traditional local dishes, many prepared with local truffles and porcini mushrooms. Another 4 or 5 good restaurants are within easy reach, all offering authentic fare at reasonable prices. :: more restaurant information ::
