Federica's and Lilli's Castle Apartments (#249)
An impressive 12th century castle where you can relive first-hand the rich history of the area.
The watchtower constitutes the oldest wing, built around 1000 years ago and the castle is situated on the Tuscan/Umbrian border. From the turreted roof of the castle which totals 3000 sqm on each of the 3 floors, you can almost feel the presence of the soldiers on guard armed with their bows and arrows! Even the original castle jail has been carefully preserved and pleasantly spooky transporting you back in time! The 360 degree panorama is absolutely picture perfect and includes views over to another famous castle that was also owned by a previous powerful ruling family for many centuries.
Possession of the castle was transferred to the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1815 and then ownership was transferred to the current owners, the Mignini family in 1917. The great granddaughters, Federica and Lilli, heirs to the castle and large estate could not be more down to earth, hospitable and accommodating. They both live in apartments within the castle.
For special Italian Weddings the castle provides the perfect setting with the large reception rooms on the ground floor able to accommodate parties of up to 300 for buffet or 5 course full table service receptions. In the summer months groups may if preferred enjoy their reception al fresco in the charming castle grounds. The reception rooms are also ideally suited for conventions and seminars.
The substantial underground vaulted wine cellar is in a word….amazing and Federica and Lilli are only too pleased for guests to sample their wines. In November the estates’ olives are harvested to produce a quality cold pressed extra virgin olive oil ... as Lilli explains ‘with absolutely no heat involved in the extraction process we are very proud of our extra virgin olive oil and stored in the castle cellars it preserves its’ fine qualities for up to 12 months or more’.
The castle is currently undergoing further restoration work but is due to reopen in the spring of 2009. A second substantial and luxury apartment on the first floor of the castle itself will be available to rent along with the existing palatial 3 bedroom apartment on the second floor and the smaller but very well appointed and tastefully decorated apartments located within the wide original castle stone walls.
The apartments may be rented individually or larger groups may enjoy exclusive enjoyment of this fairytale castle.
Castello #1 [sleeps 6 – 7 plus]
This substantial and very palatial apartment is located on the second floor of the castle itself and consists of 2 double bedrooms plus 1 bedroom with 3 single beds, 2 bathrooms, a large, well equipped and charming kitchen plus enormous dining/sitting room featuring a significant open fireplace and antique furnishings throughout. The lounge alone is larger than a standard apartment! Additional beds can be provided in the 2 spacious double bedrooms to accommodate children. This apartment enjoys breathtaking views from absolutely every window!
Castello #2 [sleeps 4 -6]
Situated within the original wide castle walls and tastefully redecorated this apartment consists of 2 double bedrooms in which an additional single bed may be accommodated, 2 well appointed bathrooms and a dining/living room with kitchen facilities and satellite TV. Guests may enjoy use of the large swimming pool with sun umbrella and sun loungers in addition to the charming garden area in the courtyard that also provides secure private parking.
Castello #3 [sleeps 6 -8]
Also located within the historical castle walls and on 2 levels this lovely apartment consists of a double room with additional single bed and en suite bathroom, a delightful single bedroom that would delight any child plus 2 double bedrooms both with their own well appointed bathroom, kitchen/dining area with satellite TV. Guests may enjoy use of the large swimming pool with sun umbrella and sun loungers in addition to the charming garden area in the courtyard that also provides secure private parking.
Federica and Lilli offer maximum flexibility in the sense that for wedding parties and convention groups they can offer apartments #2 and #3 on a B&B basis even if just for 2 or 3 nights.
The Rates
The castle is currently undergoing renovations and will not be available until 2009. Weekly and daily rates for the castle apartments have not yet been established, however, we can provide some indication upon request.
